Dear Parents,

First graders say the cutest things.  Yesterday we were reading about Martha Washington.  She, of course, was George Washington’s mother. Her gingerbread was legendary.  She cut off the dry ends calling them “kissing pieces”.  No one ate them.  One student said, “I know why they are called that.  They are gross and kissing is gross.”

On that note, we will have a short Valentine’s Day party on Friday, February 12th at 1:45.  Please have your first grader make valentines for first and second graders as we will celebrate together.  Here’ s a class list to help with Valentine production:  Clara, Clayton, Vincent, Brady, Riley, Claire, David, Olin, Charlie R., Charlie K., Rose, Colbie, Noah, Trais.

Dear Parents,

The students are enjoying the independence of working on Accelerated Math.  This allows the students to work on one or two objectives that are tailored to their ability level. To build fluency in the basic facts, we're playing "Addition War" using a deck of cards and there's a jet ski addition game at www.arcademics.com the students really like. If you have a few minutes and a deck of cards, or access to the internet, please encourage your first grader to practice.

Dear Parents,

We’ve been talking about friendship and compromise as we read and revel in the antics of Frog and Toad in the book Frog and Toad are Friends and in Bink and Gollie from the book by the same title. God has created us with unique talents and abilities. We are enriched when we share our possessions, our stories, our very selves.

Shared joy is doubled. Shared sorrow is halved.
