Parents,

On Monday afternoon, the students were greeted with a mysterious postcard.  It gave them instructions to follow using cardinal directions.  Students left the classroom in pairs and returned with more clues.  At the end of the scavenger hunt, they  discovered a small green suitcase filled with postcards and  Holli Hobby’s book, Toot and Puddle.  I read the book to the students and then they wrote a postcard to Toot and Puddle explaining if they were more like Toot who likes to travel, or more like Puddle, who prefers to stay at home.

Parents,

Butterflies are a symbol of Easter.  The butterfly emerges from the silent cocoon like Christ emerged from the tomb. The first graders wrote their own prayers last week and decorated our hall board with butterflies.  This week the students will make simple Ten Commandments booklets to become familiar with the two great commandments:  Love God, love others.

Dear Parents,

Models are a crucial part of the scientific method.  They allow us to understand and manipulate the world. The students built models to protect a plastic bear from wind and rain.  They tested their structures by blowing air through a straw and by dripping water onto them. Overall, their models were a success.

The first graders will be assisting with the Liturgy on Friday, March 18th at 8:30 A.M.  They are so excited to be participating at Mass in this way.  I hope you can join us for Mass and hospitality (donuts).
